Why this role exists at EduRankAI
Build APIs, work on the data model, fix bugs deep in the stack. You will pair with a Senior daily and own progressively larger pieces of the backend over 18-24 months until you are operating as a Senior engineer. The role exists for engineers who already understand SQL more deeply than they understand frameworks, and who want to be the person who can answer "what does this query actually do?" before opening EXPLAIN ANALYZE.
02 — The work
What you will own
- 01 Build production APIs end-to-end under Senior code review.
- 02 Write SQL migrations and defend their reversibility.
- 03 Add observability + tests; make on-call cheaper for the team.
- 04 Triage and fix production bugs.
- 05 Participate in code review + design review.
- 06 Pair with the Senior backend on hard data-model decisions.

Who thrives here
- → You have shipped at least one production API that has been live for 6+ months.
- → You have written a SQL migration that survived production and you can describe a migration you would write differently in hindsight.
- → You read EXPLAIN ANALYZE when a query is slow, not just when the error reaches you.
- → You write integration tests for the hard cases on purpose.
- → You have an opinion about ORMs and you can defend it.

Objectives agreed at the start of each cycle. Hours recorded for compliance are never used as a performance score.
Where this stands legally
Within the 9-hour day and 48-hour week ceiling of the applicable state Shops and Establishments Act, with at least 24 consecutive hours of weekly rest and a break of at least 30 minutes after five hours of continuous work. Hours are recorded for statutory compliance only. Work beyond the scheduled week is agreed in advance and compensated with time off in lieu.
