Why this role exists at EduRankAI
The API Testing Intern will work with the software engineering and product teams to validate APIs used across EduRankAI systems and applications. The role involves understanding API contracts, designing test scenarios, executing functional and negative tests, identifying defects, validating responses and integrations, and maintaining structured testing documentation. You will work across different stages of the API lifecycle, from endpoint validation and test-case design through defect reporting, regression testing, and release verification. The role is intended to provide practical exposure to industry-standard API testing and software quality engineering workflows in a technology-focused environment.

What you will own
- 01 Understand API specifications, endpoint behaviour, request/response structures, and authentication mechanisms
- 02 Design and execute functional, negative, boundary, validation, and regression test cases
- 03 Test RESTful APIs using tools such as Postman and Swagger / OpenAPI
- 04 Validate HTTP methods, status codes, headers, payloads, schemas, and response behaviour
- 05 Verify JSON and other API data formats for accuracy and consistency
- 06 Test authentication, authorization, tokens, sessions, and access-control scenarios
- 07 Identify API defects, integration issues, unexpected responses, and contract mismatches
- 08 Create clear and reproducible bug reports with appropriate evidence
- 09 Perform regression testing after fixes and API changes
- 10 Validate API integrations across frontend, backend, database, and external services
- 11 Perform data validation using SQL or equivalent database tools where required
- 12 Support API test automation using Python, JavaScript, or other approved frameworks where applicable
- 13 Maintain test cases, test results, defect records, and API testing documentation
- 14 Participate in technical discussions, test reviews, and release-readiness activities
- 15 Work closely with developers, product managers, and other QA/testing team members
- 16 Contribute to improving API quality, reliability, and testing coverage

- → Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- → Understanding of software testing fundamentals and SDLC concepts
- → Basic understanding of APIs and web communication
- → Familiarity with HTTP methods, status codes, request/response structures, and JSON
- → Hands-on exposure to Postman, Swagger, or similar API testing tools preferred
- → Basic programming knowledge in Python, JavaScript, Java, or an equivalent language
- → Ability to design structured test cases and analyse unexpected system behaviour
- → Ability to document defects clearly and reproduce technical issues
- → Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- → Willingness to learn API automation and modern quality-engineering practices
- → Candidates with personal, academic, or project-based API testing experience are encouraged to apply

6 days a week, about 40 hours of total engagement — 5 hours a day of project work and departmental responsibilities, plus 1 hour 40 minutes a day of holistic well-being and personal development.

Project work and departmental responsibilities and holistic well-being and personal development together make up the total engagement above — the total is not all task output. Well-being time covers physical fitness, mindfulness, reading, reflective learning, leadership development and community engagement. About 480 hours of total engagement over 12 weeks — 360 hours of project work and 120 hours of well-being and personal development.
Measured by
Weekly mentor review against a published rubric, plus the completion of the recorded hours. Working materially over the commitment is treated the same as working under it.
Where this stands legally
Offered under the applicable AICTE internship framework, where one academic credit corresponds to a minimum of 45 hours of work — which is why these hours are counted and certified. The engagement sits well inside the 9-hour day and 48-hour week ceiling of the applicable state Shops and Establishments Act, and the seventh day is a full rest day.
At a minimum of 45 hours of work per academic credit, this engagement is equivalent to roughly 10.7 credits. Your institution decides what it awards; EduRankAI records the hours and the work.
